Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed by pitch invader in major security breach at Germany vs Portugal

 Cristiano Ronaldo was grabbed by an individual - who evaded security ran onto the pitch - before Portugal's clash with Germany. A young man was able to get onto the pitch and go after the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Ronaldo looked stunned when the supporter got his hands round him at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena before several members of security were able to intervene. The Al-Nassr star then appeared to try and calm the situation during his warm-up.

The individual was escorted from the pitch in a rain-soaked Germany as the heavens opened before the Nations League semi-final clash.

Security at the stadium in Munich was also heavily breached at the weekend during the Champions League final. After PSG had hammered Inter Milan 5-0 a number of fans backing the Parisians were able to make their way onto the pitch to celebrate.

Ronaldo is the highest scorer in international football history and, despite turning 40 just months ago, remains the man tasked with leading the line for his country. He is still a talismanic figure and is hoping to add more silverware to his CV with his country.

Portugal manager Roberto Martinez hailed the mix of young and old he has within his squad as he told UEFA: "What's important is we've got a dressing room where the experienced players welcome the young players. Because it's very, very different when the experienced players don't open their arms to the new talent. Today, we've shown that this is not a mixture of one generation, it's a mixture of four or five generations.

"We've got a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, then you've got players in between with Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva. And then you've got the younger generation and I think you've got a new generation coming in: Geovany Quenda and other players that we've seen in the Under-17s doing a fantastic job."

Portugal were the winners of the inaugural Nations League, which was played back in 2019. On home soil they downed the Netherlands but haven't reached the finals since. Ronaldo spearheads an attack that also has the likes of Pedro Neto and Bruno Fernandes.

The winner of Germany's clash with Portugal will take on the victor on Spain against France. The Euro 2024 winners are holders having won the latest edition in 2023 whilst Les Blues were champions two years prior to that.
